About the Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings were founded in January 1960 and began play in 1961 as an NFL expansion team, named for the Scandinavian heritage common in Minnesota. Bud Grant took over in 1967 and coached through 1983, with a brief return in 1985, and his teams reached the playoffs 12 times in 17 seasons.

Minnesota won the 1969 NFL Championship, the last title game before the AFL-NFL merger, and then reached four Super Bowls (IV, VIII, IX and XI) without a win. Much of that run was built on the "Purple People Eaters" defensive line of Alan Page, Carl Eller, Gary Larsen and Jim Marshall.

The team has one of the best winning percentages among franchises that have never won a Super Bowl. Its best-remembered recent playoff moment is the "Minneapolis Miracle" win over New Orleans in January 2018. Kevin O'Connell is the current head coach.

The Minnesota Vikings play in the NFC North with the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions, and the Chicago Bears.

U.S. Bank Stadium guide

U.S. Bank Stadium stands in the Downtown East neighborhood of Minneapolis on the site of the old Metrodome. It opened in 2016 after the Vikings had played at Metropolitan Stadium, the Metrodome and, for two seasons, the University of Minnesota's stadium. The fixed roof is a translucent ETFE skylight, so the building is enclosed but bright, and giant pivoting glass doors fill the west end. Capacity is about 66,200, expandable to about 73,000. The stadium hosted Super Bowl LII in 2018 and the 2019 Final Four.

Getting to U.S. Bank Stadium

The METRO Blue and Green light rail lines both stop at U.S. Bank Stadium station, right outside the building, and the Blue Line runs directly from MSP Airport. Northstar commuter rail riders arrive at Target Field and can transfer to light rail. Downtown hotels and ramps connect to the area by skyway, which helps on cold days.

Parking

The stadium does not run its own public lot. Instead, several ramps and lots nearby, including permit facilities close to the building, serve Vikings games, and the team's official prepaid parking lets fans choose a ramp or lot in advance. At least one ramp connects to the stadium by skyway. Tailgating is allowed in designated lots and ramps, but tailgating passes are sold only for the full season.

Arrival and entry

Tickets are mobile, and the NFL clear-bag policy applies at every entrance. Light rail trains are crowded before and after games, so leave extra time either way. Check the U.S. Bank Stadium and Vikings websites for door times and entry details for your game.

Seating tips at U.S. Bank Stadium

U.S. Bank Stadium has a 100 level lower bowl, a 200 level with several clubs, and a 300 level upper deck. Field-level club sections along the sidelines use letters instead of numbers. The Delta Sky360 Club sits in sections F1 to F5 directly behind the Vikings bench, and other named clubs are on the visitors' side and on the 200 level.

The roof covers every seat, so there is no weather to plan for. Lower sideline sections put you nearest the benches, while upper-level sideline sections give a full view of the field.

Buying Minnesota Vikings tickets on TixBit

Division games against the Packers, Bears and Lions are the Vikings games fans ask about most, along with prime-time kickoffs. Because the stadium is enclosed, a December game here is comfortable even in a Minnesota winter. Compare sideline, end zone and club sections on the seat map, and check the quantity and seat notes before you buy. Never fees for buyers.
