About the Chicago Bears

The Bears began in 1920 as the Decatur Staleys, a charter member of the American Professional Football Association, the league that became the NFL. The club moved to Chicago in 1921 and took the Bears name in 1922. Founder George Halas coached and owned the team for decades, and his family still owns it.

Chicago has nine NFL championships. Eight came before the AFL-NFL merger (1921, 1932, 1933, 1940, 1941, 1943, 1946 and 1963), and the ninth was Super Bowl XX after the 1985 season, when Mike Ditka's team won the title.

Ben Johnson became head coach in January 2025. In his first season the Bears went 11-6, won the NFC North, and beat the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round before losing to the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional round.

The Chicago Bears play in the NFC North with the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions, and the Minnesota Vikings.

Soldier Field guide

Soldier Field sits on Chicago's lakefront on the Near South Side, next to the Museum Campus. It opened in 1924, has been the Bears' home since 1971 and was rebuilt inside its original colonnades in 2002 and 2003. It is open-air, with a grass field, and holds about 62,500 for football, the second-smallest capacity in the NFL. The Bears still play here in 2026, but the team has spent years pursuing a new stadium. It bought the former Arlington Park site in Arlington Heights in 2023, and in June 2026 its board voted to advance a stadium project in Hammond, Indiana. No final site or construction deal had been announced as of this review.

Getting to Soldier Field

Public transit is the easiest way in. The CTA Red, Green and Orange Lines stop at Roosevelt, roughly a three-quarter-mile walk from the stadium, and Metra Electric riders can use the 18th Street station just to the south. CTA buses and suburban Pace express routes also serve games. Rideshare drop-off uses the 18th Drive turnaround west of Lake Shore Drive, with pickup at Columbus and Balbo north of the stadium.

Parking

On-site parking is limited. The North Garage, Waldron Deck and South Lot are held for Bears season parking pass holders, and single-game passes for the other Museum Campus lots are sold in advance through SoldierFieldParking.com rather than at the gate. McCormick Place Lot B to the south offers game-day parking with a free shuttle to the stadium. Tailgating is allowed on the surface lots in the Soldier Field parking program, but not in the downtown garages.

Arrival and entry

Bears games use mobile tickets, so load them in the team's ticketing app before you leave home. The NFL clear-bag policy applies at every gate. Walks from trains and remote lots take a while, so leave extra time and check the Soldier Field and Bears websites for gate opening times on your game day.

Seating tips at Soldier Field

Soldier Field has four seating levels: the 100 level lower bowl, the 200 level, the 300 level, and the 400 level grandstand high above the sidelines.

According to the Bears, the United Club seats are on the east sideline across the 200 and 300 levels, which is the visitors' side. The Bears bench is on the west side, so fans who want to face the home sideline usually look at the west lower sections. The stadium has no roof, so dress for the lakefront wind in November and December.

Buying Chicago Bears tickets on TixBit

Games against the Packers draw the most interest, followed by the Lions and Vikings and any prime-time kickoff. December games bring cold lakefront weather. Compare sideline and end zone sections on the seat map, note whether a listing is on the east or west side, and check the quantity and seat notes before you buy. Never fees for buyers.
